Dental Crown
Using a dental crown to a protect a damaged tooth is one of the most common forms of dental treatment. As we get older our teeth can suffer decay and damage. For many patients this damage and decay is inevitably going to get worse and requires invention to extend the life of the tooth.
What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is a cap shaped like a tooth that is fitted over your existing tooth. This permanent solution is designed to mimic the look, feel, and function of a natural tooth once it is securely in place. Dental crowns come in three primary types: metal crowns, porcelain crowns, and composite resin crowns.

What are the benefits of a dental crown?
A dental crown can;
- protect teeth from erosion (wear and tear).
- treat worn, broken or decayed teeth.
- enhance your appearance.
- improve chewing function.
- They can last from 5 – 15 years with proper care.
What concerns can a dental crown help with?
A crown may be necessary when a tooth is chipped, broken or has a weak structure that cannot be repaired with a filling. In order to keep the natural tooth as long as possible a crown can help to protect the existing tooth from further damage for as long as possible. When a crown is no longer viable, it may be appropriate to extract the tooth.
