Dental Exam
Attending regular check-ups is a vital part of the routine care required for keeping your teeth and gums healthy.
Depending on your age and treatment requirements check-ups can last anywhere from 10-30 minutes and your dentist may need to see you more frequently depending on your overall oral health score.
We recommend that all patients attend a routine checkup at least once every 12 months.
A few of the things that we will usually do while you’re in the chair:
- Take appropriate routine x-rays when required.
- Checks your jaw joints
- Looks at your occlusion (bite)
- Assess you for any infections, including your tongue and gums
- Check for oral cancer by feeling for lumps in the jaw, neck and throat
- Record measurements of your gums to assess for gum disease
- Examines your teeth for caries (tooth decay)
- Offers oral health advice, tailored to you
At the end of your check-up your dentist will make a judgement on how often they should see you based on their assessment of your oral health needs. They will usually set your next recall date within 3-6 months’ time.
Your oral health can change quickly over time so it’s vital that you keep to the recommended recall dates so we can help you to maintain great oral health and contribute to your overall health too.
