Dentures
Dentures are used by dentists to help restore a patient’s smile and improve functionality.
What are Dentures?
A denture is a removable oral appliance designed to replace missing teeth in either the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. They are created by dental technicians using materials such as acrylic, resin, nylon, metal, and porcelain. Patients who have dentures fitted usually observe improved chewing function, enhanced appearance, improved speech and better nutrition (due to improved chewing function).
Different Types of Dentures
There are various types of dentures based on individual oral health needs:
- Full Dentures, replace a full arch of missing teeth and rest on the gums.
- Partial Dentures, replace multiple missing teeth and have clasps which fit to remaining teeth for stability.
- Implant-Retained Dentures attach to dental implants for stability and are removable.
Implant-supported Dentures are non-removable and require thorough daily cleaning.
What concerns can Dentures help with?
Missing Teeth
Dentures are usually a last result for Patients with multiple missing teeth. Although they offer several benefits, they are not better than your natural teeth so we would always recommend a preventative approach to missing teeth. A more permanent solution to missing teeth would be dental implants.
Loose Teeth
If you notice that your teeth are loose or shifting, see your dentists immediately. Loose teeth indicate inadequate bone support and could be a sign of periodontal disease. Since you cannot see beneath your gums, there could be substantial damage without your awareness.
