Dental Emergency (Trauma)

Dental Emergency / Trama

What are the potential causes of a dental emergency?

The main cause of dental trauma are accidents such as falls, car accidents or sports related injuries. Accidents cannot be predicted or prevented but it is important to safeguard against potential injuries where possible. For example, if you do regular contact sports ensure you have an effective gum shield customised to your own mouth to ensure effective protection when those heavy contact incidents take place.

Why is it worth treating?

If you do not treat dental trauma this could lead to discoloration of the tooth if the roots are damaged. You may lose your tooth permanently. The loss of one or multiple teeth due to an injury can have significant far-reaching effects not only on the look of your smile but also your ability to chew and speak so it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible after the incident has occurred.

How can we help?

With trauma you should be seen immediately:

Give your dentist a call immediately to book an emergency appointment. Most dentists will have emergency appointments available every day during opening hours. At Duthie Dental we will see new and existing patients for medical emergencies during opening hours

Out of Hours Support:

We are a Denplan Excel practice so if you have Denplan’s supplementary insurance just give us a call and follow the instructions on the answering machine. If you do not have Denplan cover, we would recommend accessing your local NHS out of hours provider
